Founder-Acarya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
In 1965, at sixty-nine, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda traveled alone from India to America, enduring severe hardship—including two heart attacks—to fulfill his guru’s order to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Arriving in New York with only a few rupees and a trunk of books, he began teaching and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, gradually gathering followers. In 1966, he founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Over the next eleven years, he traveled worldwide, established more than 100 centers, created a publishing house and the Food for Life program, and inspired a global revival of Vaiṣṇava devotion. His legacy includes over 70 influential books, translated into more than 76 languages, guiding millions toward spiritual life.
